Nestled behind a green gate in Langwith, Derbyshire, lies a unique and inclusive place called The Recovery Space.
If you’ve never visited, imagine a blend of community centre, creative hub, and recovery meeting space – complete with free tea and biscuits. Open five days a week, The Recovery Space provides a safe, stigma-free environment for anyone who has experienced substance use, is sober-curious, or simply wants to connect with like-minded people.
The venue offers much more than conversation. It’s a place for peer support, stop-smoking clinics, a food pantry, creative activities, and increasingly, a hub for holistic healing.

On Sunday 13th, Langwith Parish Hall was filled with soothing sounds – humming, chimes, and resonant tones – as The Recovery Space hosted a Sound Bath session. Led by Amy from Soul Music Sound Healing, the event guided 20 participants into deep relaxation and reflection. Amy, who is six years sober from alcohol, first discovered sound healing during her own recovery journey. What began as a personal experience has become a calling, and she now travels with her bowls and gongs to help others find stillness in the noise.
Joining Amy were Katie and Kendal from Womb & Wilderness and Inner Self Outer Health, who offered cleansing rituals and healing intentions. Attendees included people in recovery, those exploring sobriety, and others simply curious about holistic practices. This mix is what makes events like this so powerful – they are open to everyone, breaking down labels and fostering genuine human connection.
According to the Mental Health Foundation, 74% of UK adults have felt so stressed they were overwhelmed or unable to cope. Holistic therapies such as sound healing, meditation, and breathwork are increasingly recognised as effective tools for managing anxiety, trauma, and supporting addiction recovery.
Thanks to the GRID Network, the event was completely free and accessible to all. Amy, Katie, and Kendal will return soon, with plans already underway for The Hope Festival 2 on 27th September 2025.
