Recovery Project - STAND TO: National Mining Museum Visit Update – 27 March 2024

Posted on: 22 Apr 2024

Event update from our partners at the STAND TO project:

“On Wednesday 27th March 2024 we took a group of our Veteran Community to the National Mining Museum at Wakefield for a grand day out.

It certainly made us think about our own career choices with the military, and as group it was decided that we went the right way, the stories, history and information we were given by men who had worked in this area earned our greatest respect.

To actually be allowed to descend into the depth of a coal mine was a experience to behold, 15 of us crammed into a cage it was a bit tight (them miners must have been small - or are we large?) The head hitting was slightly annoying, but no complaints were laid for fear of being ridiculed by our guide - the passion all the staff had for their craft was a credit to them.

A really good day was had by all who attended – would love to go back.”
