Event update from our partners at the STAND TO project:
“The mist had descended and a slight bit of drizzle at the start, but skins waterproof, it was good to see some new faces.
We walked along the old industrial rail track which would have had spectacular views had it not been for the weather, with a break at Cromford War Memorial Bench before a right turn at the old engine shed (used for pulling rail trucks up the steep incline from Cromford Canal). Then on upwards through the Woods to the trig point, (time for a brew) from there the circular route took us to the Blackrocks with only a few stops for map checks and to pick up anyone who may have slipped over (No names). The group bonded well as to be expected with the usual humour and exchange of stories from days gone by. Once at the Blackrocks the mist cleared and we were afforded views towards Matlock, Heights of Abraham, Riber Castle and Matlock Mills (the history man stepped forward again to appraise us with his vast knowledge).
After which a downward route was chosen back to the RV point for another Brew provided by our esteemed volunteer Chris. We all look forward to the Event.”
