Losing someone due to drug or alcohol use can be an incredibly painful and isolating experience. Derbyshire Addictions Advice Service (DAAS) now offers specialist one-to-one counselling for individuals who have lost a loved one where substance use played a role in their death.
With extensive experience supporting families and individuals affected by drug and alcohol use, DAAS recognises the unique challenges that come with this kind of loss. The BACP-accredited counselling service provides a compassionate, confidential space to help individuals process difficult emotions and begin to move forward.
Understanding the Experience
When someone close dies due to substance use, the emotions involved can be overwhelming, unpredictable, and often conflicting. Feelings of sadness, anger, guilt, confusion—or even relief—are all natural responses. The circumstances surrounding the loss can make it more difficult to talk openly or find others who truly understand.
DAAS counsellors offer a non-judgemental, supportive environment where individuals can explore their feelings at their own pace.
