Hopefully, you will have seen numerous articles showcasing the selection and inviting you to open Recovery Month events across Derbyshire – celebrations designed for everyone to support those in recovery and to celebrate recovery month as part of a county-wide recovery community.
However, some projects also run activities that are only open to their participants, due to the nature of the support they provide. These events are just as important in promoting wellbeing, connection, and recovery – and if you are someone in recovery, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved beyond Recovery Month and throughout the year.
Below are some examples of what these projects are doing to celebrate Recovery Month, along with details on how you can connect with them and explore ongoing opportunities:
Active Choices: Wellbeing and Celebration Day
📅 Date: 5th September 2025
📍 Location: The Book Café, Derby & Hollywood Bowl
Active Choices invited participants to a special day of wellbeing and celebration, designed to honour recovery and reflect on the positive changes individuals are making in their lives.
The day included:
✅ Mindfulness and movement activities such as yoga and meditation
✅ An interactive workshop
✅ A relaxed bowling session
✅ A shared meal to connect and celebrate together
This event focused on social connection, personal reflection, and enjoyment, aligning with the charity’s core values.

About Active Choices
Active Choices is one of Derby County Community Trust’s longest-running programmes, supporting over 2,000 participants since 2012. The programme helps individuals in recovery build structure, routine, and positive lifestyle changes through physical activity, wellbeing sessions, and strong community networks. It also offers opportunities for volunteering, education, and employment, working closely with local partners across Derbyshire.

Home-Start Erewash: Family Celebration Event

Home-Start Erewash will host a celebration event for families supported by the project, showcasing creative work from the Making it Craft and Nurture Group. The day will include outdoor activities for children and parents such as:

About Home-Start Erewash
Home-Start volunteers support families facing challenges such as addiction, isolation, mental health issues, bereavement, financial difficulties, and more. Each family receives tailored support, including home visits, nurture groups, and community-based interventions like the Connection Café and Sunflowers school readiness groups.
