More on Family Interventions Support Project:
During Recovery Month, families from across Derbyshire came together in Chesterfield to take part in a group event hosted by the Family Interventions Support programme, run by Derbyshire Addictions Advice Service (DAAS). The event offered a safe and welcoming space for those affected by a loved one’s alcohol or substance use to share their experiences, gain support, and celebrate progress.
The session focused on how families can play a vital role in the recovery journey. Attendees contributed heartfelt personal stories, many of which highlighted the emotional challenges and triumphs they’ve faced. The atmosphere was warm and supportive, with hot drinks and a selection of homemade nibbles—including healthy options—adding to the sense of comfort and community.
One of the most valued aspects of the event was the opportunity to meet face-to-face with others who truly understand. As one participant shared, “Just knowing you’re not on your own made all the difference.” The group unanimously agreed that the discussions were both reassuring and informative, and several attendees offered ideas for future events—an encouraging sign of growing engagement and empowerment.
When someone close to you struggles with alcohol or substance use, it’s common to feel overwhelmed and isolated. Even when your loved one begins treatment or enters recovery, the impact on you doesn’t simply disappear. That’s why DAAS offers dedicated support through its Family Interventions project, helping families navigate the challenges and find their own path to healing.
